Training, taught at the chair.

Laser, waxing, brows and threading — taught inside a working London clinic by an active practitioner. Small cohorts. Real models. CPD-certified. Built for therapists who plan to actually use the chair, not collect another certificate.

01 · Philosophy

An education division inside a clinic.

The Academy is not a beauty school. It is a small, deliberate education arm of a working London clinic. Cohorts are capped at four for the laser and hot-wax courses because that is the number that fits at the chair with one trainer. The curriculum is built around what actually happens in the room — the consultation, the contraindication, the patch test, the hesitation before the first pulse on Fitzpatrick V.

01

Small cohorts.

Four for laser and hot wax. Six for strip wax and brows. The cap is a teaching cap, not a sales cap. It is what makes individual feedback possible.

02

Real clinic.

Training happens on the same equipment, in the same room, using the same Lycon wax and the same Venus Velocity diode handpiece you would meet on your first real client.

03

Consultation first.

Every course leads with the consultation — Fitzpatrick assessment, contraindications, patch testing, expectation management. Technique is taught second, because it is second.

04

Ethical execution.

You will be taught when not to treat. When to send away. When to refer. The framework is built to produce safer practitioners, not faster ones.

02 · Why train here

You are learning from a practitioner.

There is a difference between a tutor who used to do this and a clinician who did three Brazilian waxes, two laser consultations and a Fitzpatrick-V underarm before walking into the room to teach. The Academy is staffed by the second kind.

A · Active practice

Trained by the chair, not the slide deck.

Mikki holds a Level 4 Diploma in Laser Hair Removal and operates the clinic's diode laser six days a week. There is no separate teaching faculty — the trainer is the person whose treatments fill the clinic's review wall.

B · Real-clinic context

Learn the full workflow, not the technique alone.

You will observe a live treatment day, learn the booking and consent paperwork actually used at 10 Minories, and walk through real consultation language for patients who have been turned away elsewhere.

C · Fitzpatrick-aware

Including the skin tones most courses skip.

Darker-skin laser is the specialism the Academy was built around. You will train on models across Fitzpatrick I–VI where possible, with explicit protocols for IV–VI: settings, patch-test cadence, hyperpigmentation prevention, language.

Mikki at the Venus Velocity diode handpiece — in the working treatment room, not a classroom mock-up.

03 · Meet Mikki

The trainer is the practitioner.

"You are not learning from a course author. You are learning from the person whose hand is on the handpiece, in the room next door, the next morning."

Mikki · Founder & Laser Specialist · est. November 2019

Mikki opened the clinic at 10 Minories on the 1st of November 2019. Since then she has performed over seventeen thousand treatments across waxing, threading and laser, holds a Level 4 Diploma in Laser Hair Removal — the highest UK practitioner qualification for clinic-grade laser — and is manufacturer-certified by Venus Concept on the Venus Velocity 800nm diode handpiece. She operates the clinic's diode laser as the sole laser practitioner on the team.

The Academy is what came next. Not a separate brand. The same chair, made available to the next set of hands. Every cohort — laser, hot wax, strip wax and brows — is taught by Mikki personally. One named practitioner-trainer, one chair, one syllabus. There is no rotating faculty.

04 · The courses

Five diplomas. One flagship.

Each course is delivered as a standing intensive — single-day for the foundations, multi-day for the diploma-level work. The Laser Hair Removal Diploma is the Academy's centrepiece; the others sit around it.

06 · Certification & eligibility

What you leave with — and what it covers.

Every Academy course is built to produce an insurable, evidence-backed certificate. The wording here is intentional; it is the language your insurer will recognise.

Certification

CPD certificate, named & dated.

Every course awards a CPD certificate on completion, naming the trainer, the syllabus, the date, and the practical hours logged.

Insurance

Insurer-ready evidence pack.

You leave with a written breakdown of theory hours, practical hours and live-model contact — what UK insurers (ABT, Insync, BABTAC) ask for.

Live models

Real clients, briefed and consented.

Every course includes live-model work. For laser, models cover a range of Fitzpatrick types where possible, including darker skin.

Beginner-suitable

Waxing & brows: no prerequisite.

Hot wax, strip wax and brows are open to entrants and existing therapists alike. The starting frame is the consultation, not the technique.

Laser eligibility

Level 3 Beauty Therapy or equivalent.

The Laser Diploma requires Level 3 Beauty Therapy or equivalent — the UK industry standard and the threshold most insurers will write against.

Post-course

Ninety days of practitioner access.

You retain post-course access to Mikki for technique and consultation questions for ninety days. Pathway graduates retain access for twelve months.

07 · Common questions

Before you apply.

If you don't see your question, write to academy@mikkiwaxbar.co.uk and Mikki will reply personally — usually within a working day.

Q.01 Do I need previous beauty qualifications?
Hot wax, strip wax and brows are beginner-friendly — no formal prerequisite. The Laser Hair Removal Diploma requires Level 3 Beauty Therapy or equivalent. This is the UK industry standard and is what insurers expect to see before they will write a laser policy.
Q.02 Is the course CPD-certified?
Yes. Every Academy course awards a CPD certificate on completion. CPD is recognised across the UK for continuing professional development and is what most beauty insurers will reference when updating your policy. Your certificate is named, dated, and lists trainer, syllabus and practical hours.
Q.03 Will I be insurable after the course?
Most UK beauty insurers — ABT, Insync, BABTAC, Westminster — will write a policy on the basis of a CPD certificate plus evidence of practical hours and live-model work. You leave with a written breakdown of all three, formatted to hand straight to your insurer.
Q.04 Do you provide live models?
Yes — every course includes live-model work. Models are real clients of the clinic, briefed and consented in advance. For laser, models cover a range of Fitzpatrick types where possible, including darker skin (IV–VI), which is the range most academies cannot guarantee.
Q.05 What is the cohort size?
Four students for the Laser Diploma and Hot Waxing Diploma. Six for Strip Waxing and Brows. The cap is structural rather than commercial — it is the number that allows one trainer to give every student real chair time, individual feedback, and meaningful live-model exposure.
Q.06 Where is the Academy?
10 Minories, Aldgate, London EC3N 1BJ. One minute from Aldgate station, five minutes from Bank, eight from Liverpool Street. Training runs inside the working clinic — the same room, the same Lycon wax, the same diode laser, the same consumables you would meet on a real client.
Q.07 Can you teach darker-skin laser safely?
Yes. The clinic operates a true 800nm diode laser — the wavelength most appropriate for Fitzpatrick IV–VI. The diploma covers Fitzpatrick assessment, treatment settings on darker skin, hyperpigmentation prevention, patch-testing cadence, and the consultation language to use with clients who have been turned away elsewhere. See the darker-skin laser page for the same protocols applied clinically.
Q.08 Are payment plans available?
Yes — the Laser Diploma and Practitioner Pathways can be paid in two or three instalments by arrangement. Single-course diplomas (hot wax, strip wax, brows) are paid in full at the time of booking to secure the cohort place. Speak to Mikki at application if a plan is needed; nothing is published as a "deal".
Q.09 What post-course support do I get?
Every graduate retains post-course access to Mikki for technique and consultation questions for ninety days. Pathway graduates retain access for twelve months. The intent is that you do not leave with a certificate and silence — you leave with a contactable trainer.
Q.10 Where does this fit on a career path?
For Level 3 therapists, the Laser Diploma is the natural specialism progression. For new entrants, the Foundation Waxing Pathway is the standard route into a full hair-removal chair. For mid-career therapists building toward a treatment room of their own, the Advanced Practitioner Intensive is the structured route. The pathways are designed in sequence, not as bundles.
Q.11 How does the Academy differ from a beauty school?
Beauty schools deliver volume training in classrooms with rotating instructors. The Academy delivers small-cohort training inside a working clinic, with one named practitioner-trainer who treats clients on the same kit you are learning on. The trade is structural: smaller numbers, higher attention, real-clinic context — and a higher price per practitioner-hour.
Q.12 When does the next cohort run?
Strip Wax runs monthly. Hot Wax and Brows run quarterly. The Laser Diploma runs four times a year, with the next cohort opening 19 January 2027. Pathways are scheduled to a personal calendar at application. Email academy@mikkiwaxbar.co.uk for the live schedule.
